LIVE with Art
Get Gallery PDX is the brainchild of Melissa Moline, an architect and jeweler, and Leah Kohlenberg, a painter and curator. They’ve been hanging out and making art together since Kohlenberg fled NYC in 2012 for Portland, and both ensconced in the Portland Art scene – helping run Portland Open Studios, a yearly art studio tour, and running their own studio businesses.
Even before COVID-19 made it impossible to hold art festivals and traditional gallery shows, Moline and Kohlenberg recognized that many artists were struggling to get their work seen; while potential buyers were unsure how to connect with local artists. New ways of viewing and experiencing art were needed – particularly after the pandemic hit.
Enter the Get Gallery Art Hotel, in Northeast Portland. Designed at Allusa Architecture by Melissa Moline and Bob Schatz, the walls in this 6-unit building of short-term rental apartments were SCREAMING for art. And so the creation of a live-in art gallery – which you can view by the hour, the event, or the evening – was born.
